A living memory of theatre, literature and cultural history.

Rameshwar Prem was born on 3 April 1943 in Nirmali, a small village in North Bihar. He completed his postgraduate honours study in Hindi Literature from Darbhanga University in 1965 and began his literary journey through poems and short fiction for magazines and periodicals.

His major plays include Charpai, Ajat Ghar, Camp, Shatran Santan, Antarang, Kuntha, Bazi, Shabri Main, Suprimo, Badshah Jones, Lomad Vesh, Raja Nanga Hai, Barf Ki Arniya, Electra, Havir Gandha Suno, Lomeshvesh Ke Aath Dhindhorchi, Mahajaal and Shor Baba.

He wrote lyrics for G. V. Iyer’s Doordarshan series Krishnavtar, contributing more than 150 songs on Lord Krishna, and wrote the screenplay for Girish Karnad’s telefilm Woh Ghar. He received several honours, including the Ford Foundation Award, Sahitya Kriti Sammaan, Patliputra Sammaan, Shashi Bhushan Natya Sammaan and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for dramatic writing.
